Taylor Alison Swift was born on December 13, 1989 in Pennsylvania to Andrea, a homemaker, and Scott, a stock broker. She, along with her younger brother Austin, spent the first chunk of her life living on a Christmas tree farm, where she fondly remembers that it was her job to remove praying mantis pods off the growing trees . Taylor’s talent as a song writer first showed itself when, in fourth grade, she won a national poetry contest for a 3 page poem she’d written herself entitled “Monster in My Closet.” Then at only 10 years old, Swift started turning her poetry writing talents into music and she began singing at local fairs. Taylor wrote about her own life and people she knew, although she didn’t usually get a good reaction from her peers when she wrote about them. Even to this day, Taylor says that listening to one of her songs is like reading her diary. Despite some early set backs and rejection from the music industry, T continued refining her skills and taught herself how to play the guitar. When Taylor was 12, the Swift family decided to relocate from their Christmas Tree farm in PA to a Nashville suburb so that Taylor could develop her country music skills. T had always had a deep love for country and says that after seeing LeAnn Rimes in concert, she realized that she wanted to be a singer too.
